The Mekong Kampuchea Kids Scholarship Fund - Cambodia
Our Cambodia Orphanage Project is the result of a partnership with a local NGO in the town of Kampong Cham, Cambodia, called the BSDA. This organization is a lifeline to hundreds of people in need throughout the local community. Rustic Pathways’ year round operations here focus on helping the 50+ children of the BSDA grow into a brighter future. The stories and backgrounds of The Mekong Kampuchea Kids are varied. Some have families too poor to support them, some have been abandoned as a result of divorce or parents looking for work in adjacent countries, others have lost their parents due to disease or accidents.
Rustic Pathways is proud to lend a helping hand and spread some positive energy. To date, R.P. students and families have built the center’s first playground, planted several new sustainable gardens, constructed a large chicken coop and pig pens, built raised walkways through the center’s flooded areas, installed a solar pump for the well since there is no electricity, and this year we are focused on building a Children’s Library!
Our overall goal is to improve the quality of life, wellbeing and level of education in the Kampong Cham community and inspire the youth to become the new and empowered leaders of tomorrow.

Project Details:
With many families living in poverty, they simply are not able to send their children to school. Even though public education is free, there is still the cost of school materials, books, uniforms and of course, food for growing bodies and minds. The BSDA and Rustic Pathways have teamed up to form a scholarship fund for students enrolled in the BSDA’s Mekong Kampuchea Kids Program. This was created as a general donation fund in order to serve the students who are most in need. A donation to this project will go towards complete yearlong scholarships for the children. While Primary School is where the solid foundations of a good education begin, children in Cambodia often do not continue on to secondary school and end up working to help support themselves and/or their families. Scholarships to secondary school students are crucial for improving the level of education throughout the country.
